What Can I Do To Protect My Twitter Account?
The recent news of the phishing scare throughout the Twitter micro blogging network hit the tech community hard. Now there’s more concerning news about accounts with high traffic and popularity being hacked into. Twitter says that the hacker got into their administration panel and changed email address’s and passwords. Currently it is estimated that almost 50 accounts were hacked. The accounts that were hacked were people of high popularity such as Leo Laporte, Barack Obama, and Rick Sanchez of CNN. The regular Twitter user shouldn’t be concerned right now as a majority of users have less than 500 followers however we aren’t immune.
- How do you protect your account? Well first off it’s important that you change your passwords not just on Twitter but all accounts on the Internet as constantly as you can. In my opinion you should change it a minimum every week. Although this recent Twitter attack was unavoidable for the users even if they changed their password it’s still important for future problems with social networks that you keep your password fresh.
- Also keep in consideration the difficulty of your password. Use numbers, symbols, upper, and lowercase letters when creating your password. Simple passwords like using your family members name, address, or anything that relates to you will make it easier for hackers to attack you.
The main thing in situations like this is to not panic. In the case that you are hit by a hacker it’s important that you contact the network administrator as soon as possible no matter which website you are using.
