Tips On Choosing a Pocket Camcorder
Choosing a pocket camcorder is getting increasingly difficult, especially with new releases being brought out all the time. Different prices, different quality and design are all important characteristics, and when it comes down to it, will probably be critical in assisting you in your final decision. Today though, we’re going to focus on a few basic questions that you should ask yourself before purchasing a pocket camcorder.
The first question you need to ask yourself is what you plan on using the camcorder for. Different situations mean you need a different type of camera. For example, if you’re planning on recording video in low light situations it’s probably best not to get a pocket camcorder at all, considering that they simply don’t have the capabilities to deal with it.
What kind of size am I looking for? If size is an important issue for you it’s important to realize that there are many different shaped pocket camcorders. From what I’ve seen so far, the Flip Mino HD provides the best quality video for the smallest size, but if you’re wanting a larger version with better quality you’d probably want to consider the Kodak ZI8.
Audio is also another important consideration to take into account before purchasing a pocket camcorder. Some have clear and crisp audio while others are loud and pitchy. Some camcorders also give you the ability to plug in an external microphone if necessary, while others lack that capability. It’s also critical to consider the range of the audio. Will the camcorder only be able to capture short distance audio? Or will it be able to capture the sounds of a child playing in the playground on the other side of the road?
Probably the most important question to ask yourself is what quality of video you need. I generally recommend getting the best quality possible. 1080p is preferable, however, there are only a few pocket camcorders that have that capability.
In the end, what it really comes down to is price. Most people will probably go for the more affordable camcorder, even if it isn’t the best. With that said, when it comes to camcorders there’s no reason to pay over $300. Read reviews and go on Youtube to look at demonstration of video quality.
