The Difference Between a Free Blog and a Paid One
Having a blog is fairly easy to do now days. There are many free services out their that allow you to be creative and express your thoughts and opinions. Two of the most popular are WordPress.com and Blogger.com, both having a huge following. Both of these blogging systems, however, limit you and prevent you from leveraging the true power of having the blog.
The main difference between a paid blog and a free blog is that if you have a paid one you have full control over the content you publish. For example, this blog you’re reading is a paid one, in which I purchased hosting and a domain. The benefits of me doing this are that I can have my own advertising displayed and use whatever theme I want. In fact, I can even hire a designer to create a theme for me.
Free blogs limit what you can do with them. They usually have caps on the amount of disk space you can utilize, meaning that putting pictures and video onto your blog may be difficult. Additionally, they may put advertising onto your blog that wont benefit you, meaning that you will not get a share on the money that is earned from it.
Paid blogging isn’t as expensive as you may think. For example, Hostgator.com provides plans for as low as $5.00, which is worth it, considering how much better your blog will be. With that said though, I recommend choosing a hosting company that offers unlimited domains, bandwidth and diskspace so that you can get the most out of your blog. Hostgator has all three in most of their plans.
With blogging, you get what you pay for. If you pay for a blog you’re going to get a better overall service. If you don’t know how to set up your own blog there are also a few free blog installation services that I know of. These guys are extremely helpful and will get you a blog started in no time at all.
