Opening Statement

I see plenty of camera reviews on the Canon Rebel XS out there that are created on a professional basis, often forgetting that a majority of people who use the Canon Rebel aren’t that familiar with all the terms that professional photographers use when explaining and reviewing products similar to this camera.

The great thing is that this Digital SLR camera is simple enough that regular, less experienced users can also feel comfortable knowing that they’ll be able to use it with minimal difficulties. The buttons and controls, although many, are very easy to use and require little experience to fully master. I also found that the instruction manual has allot of good information to offer their users on exactly how to use the Canon Rebel. With that said, lets get onto the review.

The Design

The Canon Rebel XS is extremely well designed. The actual size is very small for a digital SLR camera and it can fit in most authorized Canon SLR cases, backpacks, and sleeves. You can purchase this camera in either Black, or Black and Silver. I recommend getting the straight black version as the black and silver seems to be unattractive and less visually intriguing. The grip was very well made. It fits my hand seamlessly and feels comfortable when you’re lifting it up to take a picture. The strap that comes with the device is also very well fitting, made of leather and other fabrics.

The Photo Quality

The actual quality of picture is pretty good for the price of the camera. It has ten magapixels, which is good for anyone who plans on cropping and editing their photos. There are seven different modes in the camera which allow you to take fast moving photography, portraits, landscapes, close ups, and much more. However, for the more experienced photographers, there are other modes in which you can edit and choose from a multitude of different features. The lens that comes with the camera doesn’t have a very good zoom so if you plan on taking photos from a distance I recommend getting a better telephoto zoom lens.

Viewing Your Photos

Photo viewing on the Canon XS is one of it’s more prominent features. It has a beautiful 2.5 inch LCD viewing display, and switching between photos is as simple as pressing the navigation buttons provided. The zoom feature of this camera are just remarkable. You can zoom as much as 10 times into your picture and also zoom out to view multiple pictures at once. With that said, if viewing your pictures is going to be something that you require more extensively than the other features I recommend getting the Canon Digital Rebel XSI as it has a larger 3 inch display.

Conclusion

So far I have absolutely no problems with the Canon XS. Although it’s nothing in comparison to more professional cameras such as the Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR camera. It’s perfect for anyone who’ll be taking photos of close up objects or sports and can be carried around in almost any SLR carrying case. The Canon XS is definitely an introductory camera and is perfect for families who’ll be using it for vacations and special moments in their lives.
