MSG Contacting Server On Ventrilo

Ventrilo has been out (free to download) for quite some time now and is being used around the world for performing many different communication related tasks, more specifically, it’s frequently used for gaming. This is because it has an extremely short buffer period in comparison to other VOIP services such as Skype and you can have multiple users participating in a single conversation.

Now lately I’ve been getting questions in response to the review I wrote in 2008. The most frequent one I get asked is how to fix the “MSG Contacting Server” error that shows up. This error prevents you from connecting to your server, and ultimately, occasionally causing users to stop using Ventrilo all together.

I personally have also have had this problem, and finally fixed it after countless hours of trial and error. There are a few things that I’ve done that solved the issue but there’s no guarantees. Here are some of the solutions that may work for you.

• Make sure you’re connecting to the right server port. Occasionally server ports change, therefore, potentially causing you difficulties connecting to the server.
• This is the solution that helped fix my problem. Something you should do, which most people often forget, is make sure that you have the correct IP address for the computer you’re using. The way you can check your IP address is by going into your command prompt (Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7). From there simply type in “ipconfig”. Then copy your IP address and enter it into the Ventrilo user profile box.
