How To Recover Lost Baggage On Time!
I was flying Air Canada today and was having such a pleasant time with them. I got in and went through security just fine. I got on the plane with no hassle at all. Went on the flight and had a good old chat with the flight attendant. We were going through very poor weather at the time and hit a bit of turbulence but that’s not the point.
We landed safely at our destination and got off the plane. Went to the luggage pick up section of the airport and waited for over a half hour to receive my luggage. Unfortunately it didn’t show up so we went to the lady at the desk and asked what we could do. She told us to fill out a luggage claim form and so we did. We filled in the appropriate information like the color, size, and maker. It was a Swiss Navy Blue Bag and wasn’t hard to miss. We then gave it to the lady and left for home.
Once home we discovered that the lady didn’t give us a baggage identification key so we ended up having to phone AC……. After 30 minutes of waiting and listening to that awful music they play on the phone when your on hold we finally spoke to a man. He told us that all the information was in, and that he would give us the baggage ID key and so he did. Once we got all of that finished up we checked the information on the website. The lady wrote that it was a turquoise blue bag which wasn’t even close to being similar with its actuality. So again we had to fix that.
Now everything is complete. Did i mention that another quarter of the plane we were on had their baggage and belongings missing to? Well it happened and that really disturbs me. How can such a simple task of getting the baggage to the appropriate plane be so difficult(Assuming that the luggage was lost at my departing airport). I’d be a little less harsh on AC if it was just my bag but almost half the plane is a bit unacceptable.
Now I don’t know whether it was security, the airport authority, or Air Canada who caused all of this jibberish but knowing that i can’t trust that my bags will get to my desired destination is just not appropriate. I have work that is due Monday and I’m clueless as to whether I will get my baggage in time to hand it in.
What do you think? Is this the airlines fault? Is this unacceptable behavior by AC, the airport authority, or Security? What do you do to make sure that your stuff gets to your destination on time?

Should I be surprised that, first of all, it’s Air Canada, AND it’s Jazz? Hmmm. Coincidentally, I also flew Air Canada Jazz and also had my luggage ‘delayed’. I say delayed because I believe it wasn’t lost, but merely put at the back of the line due to their long line up of “delayed” baggages. Due to their recent problems of cancelled and delayed flights through Canada, they had to scramble to move all the luggage and obviously, something happened and the entire backlog of luggage was up to a point where they can’t put your luggage on the same flight since they were trying to get rid of those several flights earlier. That’s likely why the majority of the passengers on the same flight also didn’t get theirs either.
The sad fact was confirmed for me when I went back to the airport to claim my “delayed” luggage that the guy ahead of me was told that his bag would not arrive on the same flight at his destination since his flight was delayed for several hours and it was the last flight out. He may miss his connecting flight and the check in lady told him to take the necessities out of his bag as he won’t have it arrive in time. Sad, isn’t it?
My ordeal with Air Canada wasn’t nearly as bad as others who were stuck on the tarmac for hours waiting to fly out of Vancouver. I was just stuck at the airport for several hours, after mistakenly told my flight was cancelled and go through panic to get the luggage back and contact the check in counter. I really hate Air Canada and they really have screwed it up this time as the Consumer Complaints board or whatever it’s called got an enormous amount of calls about Air Canada. No wonder the stock is so pitifully cheap only a few years after emerging from bankruptcy.
I’ll never fly AC…the only time I’ll fly AC is if they are flying my body back home…and the only flight available…let’s hope they wouldn’t lose my casket.
