How to create an internet radio station for free!

All of you have probably heard of an internet radio station before, and are wondering how people create them. Well it’s easy to do and you, yes you can do it for free even without a microphone. So below i’ve decided to give you guys a detailed tutorial on how to create an internet radio station.

Step 1: Download Winamp. You can do that by clicking here.

Step 2: Go to shoutcast.com, and in the menu bar click Download. After you click download you should see three options to either be a listener, be a DJ, or be a server. Out of those three you are going to select be a DJ. On the next page you are going to get a list of downloads. Choose the second or third one, depending on your operating system. They either have a plugin for a mac or windows.

Step 3- Once it is installed open Winamp. Once on Winamp go to options, Then System Preferences(ctl P). Once on system preferences scroll down on the left menu until you get to DSP/Effect. Click on that! After you do they should give you 2 options on the right side of the window in the larger menu. The options should either be “Nullsoft SHOUTcast source DSP V 1.9.0″ or ” Nullsoft signal proccesing Studio DSP V0.39b”. Click on your first option ” Nullsoft SHOUTcast source DSP V 1.9.0″. The click configure active plugin.

Step 4-After that, behind the Winamp player there should be a window called the “SHOUTcast Source” In that you should see a selection of outputs. Choose the first one. Then below under connection fill out the ip address, the port number, and the password of your server. If you don’t have a server i have a detailed tutorial right here on how to get one for free.. Then click on Yellowpages and fill out all of your station information such as the description, url of your website, Genre and possibly your aim.

Step 5- Start broadcasting. When you have your server running, you should be able to press connect. Once connected go over to the “Input” Tab. There you should see two dropdown menus. Go under the first one and select Winamp. If you have a microphone and you want to talk you would choose the soundcard input, or whatever you have as your input device.

That’s it. I also recomend setting up a website for your radio station to make it easier for you to reach your audience and have the ability to control more aspects of your radio stations. I am also going to make a tutorial on how to get a listen2myradio server up and running in a few minutes so browse around. If you have any questions of this tutorial feel free to email me at bradley(at)bradwelltv.com. Or leave a comment below. I should probably that i have my own radio station called Thump 101. I thought i would just try it out and see what happens. I’ll tell you that it’s sure fun to mess around with and try different things.

Thanks, Brad
