How Do You Listen To Your Music?

I was having a discussion with a relative of mine the other day about downloading music, and how it has revolutionized the music industry. She ended up going back to the older days when cassettes were still used. I actually remember when these cassettes were still being sold, it was really exciting to head out and purchase one.

But then the CD came out, and everyone got hyped up about being able to choose which song they wanted to listen to without having to fast forward or rewind to their favorite song. Now you could simply select a song and press play, saving you tons of time. The release of the CD created a whole new industry of stereo systems, and eventually played a part in the creation of the DVD. CD music was much more clear and audible than the cassette, not to mention that microphone technology was also improved substantially. Cd’s are still used today for many things, but not as much as digital music is…..

The mp3… What? The mp3 is a file name for digital music. There are several other types of audio formats out there as well, but MP3 has seemed to have taken hold. Most people don’t realize it, but all the music on your iPod is usually in mp3 format. Digital music is of lesser quality, but is more convenient for the everyday user. Digital music has also created a problem though, illegally downloaded music. Digital music is so much easier to get for free with the Internet that it has caused regular music sales to plummet. Luckily though, services like iTunes have given artists the ability to make money off downloaded music by selling the digital copy.

With that said, music is still one of the most popular forms of media in the world. There’s nothing better than listening to a good song whether it be from the 70’s or from the post millennium era. That leaves the question though; How do you listen to your music?
