y dnt u get the 17 inch macbook pro so that way u can get the best f both worlds. the ipad would get annoying after typing on the touchscreen. the 17 in mbp is awsome cuz u get a lot of realestate on the screen but still get the portability of a laptop. and all mac laptops get hot i mean really hot. but the will never over heat bcuz of the way they r designed so dnt worry about that

There is one additional factor that you may want to consider, the screen/monitor size.
If most of your work is going to be on documents, and watching a few videos etc, i guess the iMac will work much better.
the caveat being portability, but since you already have a notebook, the amount of time you would get to spend on each of this is a crucial question you may want to ask.
the idea of carrying an attractive MacBook is appealing, but again with portability comes the risk of damaging, scratching accidents etc. I have known people who have been extremely careful and even had hard covers on the macbook and still be unhappy about the “prestine” look it once had. The factors here were dust and lint accumulating fast between the body and the hard cover and the additional weight it adds to your system.

I had the same issue as you but came upon my decision yesterday. I went with the iMac/iPad combo. As I thought about it, most of my “on the go” computing is mostly email and web-surfing. All of the things that I do on a daily basis are mostly web-based so all for the exception of flash content, I can do it from the iPad. At home is where all of my designing and classwork comes in. You have another option. Buy a MacBook Pro 15 and the LED Cinema Display. In September, the 27-inch display market, today I looked at it, Apple.
The advantage is that labor mobility with the option of working at home on a large monitor. Because I confessed, so this possibility to be considered.

I’m dealing with this same dilemma. However, I’m a graphic designer and I live in a condo, so I don’t have a ton of space to place a desk to hold the iMac which is one of the main reasons I would like the portability of the MacBook Pro. At my old job, we had MBP’s to take home with us and I just remember how hot it got even after working on it for a few hours. Being a designer it was nothing unusual to run 5 or 6 programs at the same time either. Again..this brings me back to the iMac. I do like the thought of the iMac/iPad combo. That would allow me to take projects in a format for presenting and be able to do the majority of things I do on the run like check email, read, listen to music etc. Hmm…decisions, decisions.

Hi Brad! Thanks for your review.
I have one of the Targus wireless presenters and they are awesome. It beats having to push the forward and back button on your laptop while trying to deliver your presentation! And the laser pointer makes it really easy to highlight what you’re talking about.

If you are interested in buying both (desktop and laptop), I find a better idea to buy now the laptop and later the desktop, because if you buy the desktop now and the laptop later probably you’ll have the same specs in your devices.
