Ben Huh Speaks at the Gnomedex Conference.
Ben Huh spoke today at the Gnomedex Conference. Here is a little info on Ben from Gnomedex.com.
“Ben Huh is a tinkerer. He’s been screwing things up at home, school and work since finding a keyboard. Despite his training as a journalist – and the-right-way-to-spell – he runs I Can Has Cheezburger? Because, laughing at lolcats is a lot more fun than writing about PTA elections.”
Ben started out at the conference talking about the statistics of the site including the timescale, and how long it has been up for. He includes the people that took part in the creation of lolcats. Ben pointed out that he didn’t start the site. He said it started out with a picture of a cat, in early 2007.
He also recommended that you buy as many misspellings of your domain as possible. An example would be his website http://icanhascheezburger.com/. He pointed out that it is very difficult to spell so he just directs people to Google and tells them to type in “Lolcats”, as it’s difficult to explain how to spell his website to the general public.
Then Huh went on to how he became affiliated with lolcats in April. He then started to request an acquisition in July, then officially owned the site in September.He also admited they were dealing with millions of pageviews with little knowledge. “Going through Pictures, Submissions, and emails that Eric had never done”
Huh started talking about how your efforts eventually payoff. At the beginning he said that you would work your butt off and nothing will happen, and that it will come in big spirts.
