Most of you who’re reading this probably already have a blog or website. The fact is, that blogging is becoming a more common way to make a secondary income, which means that it’s going to take more and more work to become successful. We’ve all heard of many people such as Darren Rowse and John Chow making it big, but you have to understand that they began blogging at a different time. There was less competition back when they first started their blogs and it wasn’t as easy for people like you and me to understand just what a blog was about and the purpose of it. Now we’re seeing blogs popping up world wide from mainstream media and businesses. This, if you ask me, is a major jump, and we shouldn’t be comparing blogging right now to what it used to be in the past.
So today I felt it necessary to create a post that will help you stand out of the crowd with your written content. There are a few things that are necessary now that weren’t significant just a couple of years ago, and it’s important that you implement these techniques into your own blogging style. However, it’s important to understand that i’m not telling you to change the way you write, but am asking you to consider these things before you hit the publish button on your next article(s).
- Don’t use multiple topics in one post- This is a mistake that I made consistently early on. Each post you compose on your blog should only contain one subject or two very similar subjects. This is because readers coming from search engines will get confused and eventually leave your site. They came to your website for one reason and one reason only– which is to find information on the topic they searched for. If you include a secondary topic to a post you run the risk of making readers angry or losing them all together.
- Keep your articles short and to the point- It can be a huge turn off for your readers when you keep rambling about complete nonsense. It’s also important to note that people in today’s social age have a very limited attention span. With the invention of Twitter people now will only read a couple of paragraphs, depending on what the article is about. With that said, it’s still crucial to recognize that it always comes down to the quality of the content rather than the length.
- Make sure your article content reflects the title- This happens all to often with new bloggers. They write the title, but make the content of the post totally opposite to the point. This will eventually confuse readers so much that they may rebel and flee from your blog. It’s critical to have your article reflect your title. It’s important to also be reminded again to remember what I said earlier and not have multiple topics in a single entry. In addition, it’s critical to know that making a catchy title shouldn’t be for the simple purpose of getting attention. Make sure the title, no matter what it is, reflects what the article is about. All i’m trying to say is try your best to keep your title relevent to the content.
- Mention both points of view in an opinionated post- Some bloggers love writing posts that will get attention due to it’s controversy. However, some tend to leave out important information from their articles. Some readers will consider this as offensive, thinking that you’re deceiving them. Even if you have a particular belief on one specific topic it’s important to always include a couple of other informative points against your view in your articles as well.
- Provide an incentive to continue reading within your posts- Readers love it when something you’re doing or promoting will benefit them. Giving your readership incentive doesn’t necessarily mean giving away free stuff, it could be teasing them about things other developersr o entrepreneurs are creating. For example, you could let them know the “inside secrets” as to what’s in store for the future of blogging, or give them your thoughts on the future of social networking. There are plenty of ways that you can grab your readers attention within your article.
Making your articles more attractive isn’t as complicated as you think. Just a simple few tweaks here and there can go quite a long way when it comes to bringing in a larger readership. Remember some basic things though; spelling & Grammar, paragraph structure, and correct sentences. Most importantly, have fun with what your doing. Your visitors can easily tell when you’re not into what you’re writing about. Make sure every word you say is from the heart and not fabricated.

Just an additional tip: also focus on post readability. Like this one for example, you can try breaking in the post into more readable paragraphs, adding bullets of sub-titles to emphasize texts. Bolds and italics helps a lot too

I couldn’t agree more with what you wrote. That’s exactly the way I think. These are great tips! I bought Darren Rowse’s Workbook 31 days to building a better blog, because I believe we have to learn from successful person.
