5 Places To Visit In Jasper National Park
Jasper National Park is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Canada. Featuring some of the most natural landscapes and some of the most active wildlife, Jasper is truly a beautiful area to visit. The tourism industry is booming in that area, with people heli-skiing in the winter and biking along the road in the summer. You’ll find some of the most natural streams of water in the world around Jasper, melted from the icecaps in the mountains above. Today I’m going to talk about five different places in which you should visit when you head to Jasper National Park.
- Whistler Mountain – A gondola goes from the bottom of Whistler mountain to about 4/5ths of the way up. From there you can take a hike even higher up above the tree line or you can choose to walk down to the base. On the peak of the mountain you’ll be able to see downtown Jasper and the surrounding area. The trip up Whistler mountain is really quite enjoyable and I highly recommend that you check it out. Make sure you go early in the morning though, as lineups get increasingly longer throughout the day.
- Ice Fields/Glaciers – The Ice Fields, which are located half way between Banff and Jasper feature some of the oldest solid ice in the world. Take a bus up onto the glaciers and witness some of the most historic snow. I know it sounds a little silly when I say this, but the feeling of standing on history is really quite amazing.
- Hot Springs – There are many hot springs in the surrounding area of Jasper. However, I recommend that you choose your timing carefully before you go, as these hot springs can get very busy. I felt that during these peak hours it wasn’t enjoyable at all to be sitting in the water, considering that you’re side by side with other people. With that said though, visiting a hot spring is definitely something you won’t want to miss out on.
- The Local Theater – Although the theater isn’t much of a tourist attraction I decided to put it on this list simply because of the price. In the summer you can view a movie for less than eight bucks, which is extremely cheap in comparison to some of the more mainstream theaters. Popcorn, drinks, and other food is also extremely affordable there.
- Downtown Jasper – There is tons of heritage in the downtown area of Jasper. City laws prevent certain houses from being renovated so that the city can keep it’s historic resemblance. Finding a tour guide is also a great idea so that they can educate you about all of the important events that have happened in the city. Everything is in walking distance there, however, shopping can be quite expensive.
Jasper National Park is definitely one of the best places to visit in the Canadian Rockies. Lot’s of historical sites, plenty of camping space, and an abundance of wildlife. Jasper is surely an exciting and enjoyable adventure.
