4 Ways to Help Quit Smoking!
I myself have personally not smoked at all during my short life but I have had plenty of family members take it up. Unfortunately the cons of smoking outweigh the benefits of smoking by a long haul. I have observed these family members over the last little while to see what the key really is to finally put out that cigarette bud for the first time. There are many stop smoking therapy’s, and many types of stop smoking treatment that are available to the public but a majority of people on their conquest to quit tend to make excuses for not continuing in their quest and continue to procrastinate. Today I’m going to outline 4 tips that may help you in your journey to finish smoking for good. Before I go on though I should put a disclaimer out there that each person is different and that consulting your doctor on all actions you take and implement into your body is very important.
- Create a long term plan- It’s important to know that quitting isn’t going to be an easy task and will take lots of time and effort. Giving this habit up should be taken in small steps that will allow you to slowly grow out of it. People expect that if they do so decide to quit that it should be as easy as a walk in the park. When people suddenly stop like this they have a greater chance of getting right back into the habit again. Having your own designated quit smoking day isn’t going to cut it. Actually take out a piece of paper and write your long term goals and where you expect to be within the next one maybe two years.
- Ask For Help- Quitting smoking is allot of work and being able to rely on others(typically family members) is very important in being successful. Have them remind you of your goals and what you would like to achieve. Have them accompany you when you go shopping to keep you from purchasing the smokes in the first place. Having friends and family behind you can go along way and keeping your addiction from them can only harm yourself or others.
- The Gum Doesn’t help- It’s important to know that there is not really a quit smoking prescription available even though some companies say that their product decreases your chance on getting hooked in the first place or that purchasing their product will increase your chances of quitting. There are chewing gum’s available saying that they will decrease your craving of Nicotine but all these gum’s do is put a limited amount of Nicotine into their product. They still don’t control how much of the gum you choose to chew and they don’t necessarily take the craving away. Really there isn’t any new quit smoking drug that can cure you but there are plenty of alternatives such as eating healthy and keeping the stressful parts of your life limited.
- Don’t Give Up- As I mentioned earlier people that quit smoking don’t have a very good chance at keeping off the addicting product. In fact less then 10% of all people who attempt to quit smoking actually succeed. It can be hard to persist through these troublesome times therefor it’s important to always keep your main goal and your main focus in the back of your mind. Knowing what your limitations are is key in developing healthy habits when it comes to quitting and it definitely goes a long way. People who often have stressful jobs and are having a rocky relationship with their loved one(s) also plays a crucial factor in the development of your progress. Keeping out of these stressful situations and always thinking positive is important not only for quitting smoking but will also help you with your state of mind.
I have had three to four family members die of cancer which of course ended up being smoking related. However I have had multiple relatives you have quit the habit and are now living happier and more healthier life styles. If you’ve tried and tried but just can’t stop I recommend consulting your physician as they may have more appropriate recommendations for you. Know that they know what they are talking about and will (hopefully) be glad to help you succeed in your journey towards living a happier and healthier lifestyle, and don’t wait until you have a near death experience to begin quitting.
